How to schedule Instagram posts, Reels and Stories
You can schedule Instagram content in Instagram's own app or with a scheduler that publishes through Meta's official API. This guide shows the second way with the SuperProfile Instagram scheduler, which publishes feed photos, carousels of 2 to 10 photos or videos, Reels (3 seconds to 15 minutes, with an optional cover and share-to-feed) and Stories for you.
What do I need before I start?
- An Instagram professional account (creator or business), because Meta's publishing API works only with professional accounts.
- Your photos or videos, and the caption you want to post.
- A free SuperProfile account.
How do I schedule an Instagram post?
- Create a free SuperProfile account and open Schedule in the dashboard.
- Connect your Instagram professional account with Instagram login and approve the permissions.
- Create a post: choose a photo, carousel, Reel or Story and upload the media.
- Write the caption, and add a first comment, people tags, alt text or collaborators if you want.
- Pick the date, time and time zone, then schedule it. It shows on your calendar and grid preview.
- Optional: attach an Auto-DM so people who comment a keyword get your link in their DMs.
What are the limits?
- How far ahead
- From 2 minutes ahead (15 minutes for posts with video) up to 90 days ahead, in the time zone you choose
- Carousels
- 2 to 10 photos or videos
- Reels
- 3 seconds to 15 minutes, with an optional cover image
- Captions
- Up to 2,200 characters, with a hashtag counter up to 30
- Posts a day
- Meta allows an Instagram account up to 100 posts through its publishing API in 24 hours, and SuperProfile checks that limit before each post
- Late posts
- A post that cannot be published within 2 hours of its time is marked failed instead of going out late, and you can retry it
How do I pick a time to post?
There is no single best time for every account, and Meta publishes none. Instagram Insights shows when your own followers are most active: open Insights, tap Total followers and look at the most active times (shown once you have at least 100 followers). Schedule your posts for those hours in your own time zone, then compare reach on the posts you published. See also Instagram schedulers compared. Through an AI assistant you can read each published post's reach, likes, comments, saves, shares and views (plus watch time for Reels).
How do I get more from a scheduled post?
- Add a first comment with extra hashtags or a question, so the caption stays clean.
- Invite up to 3 collaborators so the post also appears on their profiles.
- Attach an Auto-DM and say “comment GUIDE” in the caption: people who comment get your link in their DMs, within Meta's rules. The automation starts when the post publishes, and your Auto-DM plan limits apply.
- Check the grid preview before the week starts so your profile looks the way you want.
