Affiliate link DM template for Instagram

An affiliate link DM should name the product, say it is an affiliate link, and open the shopping app without breaking your commission. Below are copy-paste variants for single products, outfit and setup lists, Hinglish versions, and the one setting that keeps Amazon and Flipkart links working.

Don't quote a price in the DM. Marketplace prices change daily, and an automation may run for months.

A message can carry up to three buttons, so a three-item outfit or desk setup fits in one DM.

Buttons: "Top", "Jeans", "Shoes", or the brand names. For more than three items, link one button to a list page and say so: "All 8 items are on this page".

Which link-tracking setting should you use?

SuperProfile has a Track link clicks toggle on every Instagram and Messenger automation (on by default); turn it off and links go out exactly as typed, with no redirect; Amazon and Flipkart links are always sent as typed so affiliate commission and the shopping app open work; with tracking off, click counts and link-not-clicked follow-ups are unavailable for that automation.

Short links from the programme's own app usually carry your tag. Test the link from the DM on a phone where you are logged out of the shopping app.

Button text: "Shop the [product]", "View on Amazon" or just the product name. Avoid "Buy now" for a product you do not sell yourself.

Do you have to disclose affiliate links in DMs?

Advertising rules in many countries, including India's ASCI guidelines for influencers and the US FTC's endorsement guides, expect you to disclose a material connection like a commission. A DM is still part of the promotion, so put a plain disclosure in the message: "affiliate link", "#ad" or "I earn a commission". It also builds trust; people who feel tricked unfollow.

Should you send a follow-up?

Usually no. A shopper who did not tap does not need reminding about someone else's product, and a reminder looks pushy. One exception: a sale ending the same day. Follow-ups are on paid plans, and follow-ups run within 23 hours of the person's message, inside Meta's messaging window.

What should you customise?

The product name and your honest take. One line on why you use it beats a copied product description.
The disclosure wording. "Affiliate link", "#ad" or "I earn a commission": pick one and use it consistently.
The keyword. One per Reel, or a product name (MIC, KURTA) so commenters know what they are asking for.
Link tracking. On or off per programme, as above.

What mistakes should you avoid?

No disclosure. See above.
Dead links. Products go out of stock. Check automations on old Reels every few weeks.
Claims you have not tested. "Best mic under [price]" on a mic you used once.
One keyword for different products on different Reels without checking each automation points at the right link.

How do you set it up in SuperProfile?

Paste a template and add one to three buttons with your affiliate links.
Leave Track link clicks on for Amazon and Flipkart; turn it off for programmes that do not allow redirects.
