How to post on LinkedIn: text, image, carousel and video
You post on LinkedIn from the share box at the top of your feed on desktop, or the Post icon in the mobile app. The steps change slightly by format: a plain text update, a photo or multi-image post, a document carousel (LinkedIn removed its own carousel button, so a carousel today is a PDF upload) or a video. We build SuperProfile; its LinkedIn scheduler, covered near the end, lets you prepare any of these ahead of time.
How to post on LinkedIn from desktop
- Go to your LinkedIn homepage and click Start a post in the share box at the top of your feed.
- Click the name dropdown to choose who can see the post (Anyone, Connections only or a Group) and your comment settings.
- Type your update (up to 3,000 characters).
- Use the icons under the text box to add a photo, video, document or poll, or to tag people and companies with @.
- Click Post to publish immediately, or the clock icon to schedule it for later.

How to post an image or multiple images on LinkedIn
Click the photo icon in the share box to add one photo, or choose several to create a multi-image post. a LinkedIn multi-image post holds 2 to 20 images (LinkedIn's API) LinkedIn accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF and WEBP (HEIF/HEIC on iPhone), up to 36 megapixels. For exact pixel sizes LinkedIn recommends for each shape, see our LinkedIn post size guide.
How to post a carousel on LinkedIn
LinkedIn no longer has a dedicated "carousel" button for organic posts — what people call a LinkedIn carousel today is a document post: a PDF (or PPT/PPTX, DOC/DOCX) that LinkedIn displays as swipeable pages, up to 100 MB and 300 pages. Click the + icon in the share box and choose Document, then upload your file; the file name becomes the title shown on the post. Design every page the same shape (square or 4:5 vertical work best) so the swipe doesn't jump between pages.
How to post a video on LinkedIn
Click the video icon in the share box and upload your file.
- Images: JPEG, PNG, GIF and WEBP (HEIF/HEIC on iPhone), up to 36 megapixels
- Documents: PDF, PPT/PPTX and DOC/DOCX, up to 100 MB and 300 pages
- Video: MP4, MOV (WEBM and MKV on some devices), 75 KB to 5 GB, 3 seconds (2 from the mobile app) to 15 minutes, aspect ratio 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, resolution 256 x 144 to 4096 x 2304, 10 to 60 fps
How to schedule a LinkedIn post instead of posting live
Two ways to schedule a personal-profile post instead of publishing immediately:
LinkedIn's own composer: LinkedIn's own post composer can schedule a post between 10 minutes and 3 months ahead, and you can reschedule or delete it later; Events and Jobs can't be scheduled
SuperProfile Schedule (our product): text posts, one photo (JPG, PNG or GIF), multi-image posts of 2 to 20 images, one video (MP4, 3 seconds to 15 minutes) and one PDF document, on your personal LinkedIn profile. Limits:
- Post text up to 3,000 characters (LinkedIn's limit)
- Photos in JPG, PNG or GIF up to 30 MB each (SuperProfile limit), with alt text; SuperProfile uploads without cropping and LinkedIn controls how images appear
- Video as MP4 up to 500 MB, from 3 seconds to 15 minutes (SuperProfile limits)
- PDF documents up to 100 MB and 300 pages; the file name becomes the title shown on LinkedIn
- Schedule from 2 minutes ahead for text, 5 minutes for photos, multi-image posts and documents, and 15 minutes for video, up to 90 days ahead (SuperProfile limits)
- If a post can't be published, SuperProfile stops trying two hours after its time and marks it failed; you can retry it
- LinkedIn's own image limits: under 36,152,320 pixels, and GIFs of up to 250 frames
Scheduling LinkedIn posts is part of the paid Schedule, the same as Instagram and Facebook Page scheduling: creating, changing and scheduling posts needs a paid plan; viewing and cancelling stay open, and connecting LinkedIn is not plan-gated Through an AI assistant connected to SuperProfile, through an AI assistant, these Schedule tools accept LinkedIn: get_instagram_schedule_context (lists your LinkedIn profile), list_scheduled_posts, get_scheduled_post, prepare_scheduled_post, prepare_scheduled_post_media_upload, confirm_scheduled_post_media, schedule_post, cancel_scheduled_post, duplicate_scheduled_post, reschedule_scheduled_posts and get_instagram_grid_preview (published posts shown are only those SuperProfile published in the last 30 days); get_scheduled_post_insights and attach_auto_dm_to_scheduled_post do not work for LinkedIn, and the assistant cannot connect LinkedIn: you do that in Schedule
