Five significant rule changes landed in twenty-seven months. The last SGB tranche was issued in February 2024 and there has been nothing since. The Budget of February 2026 narrowed the tax-free exit to original subscribers holding to full maturity, and listed bonds fell about 10% in a single session. Import duty went from 6% to 15% on 13 May 2026. SEBI switched Indian gold and silver fund valuation to domestic prices on 1 April 2026. And underneath all of it, gold fell about 27% and silver almost 53% between their January peaks and their June lows.
Most of what you will find online was written before any of that.
This book is the current map. Eighty-four pages. Sixteen chapters. Nine ways to own gold and silver, compared on the four things that actually decide your outcome: what each really costs, how each is taxed, which regulator stands behind it β and in one important case, that none does β and who each one suits.
You will find the full SGB redemption calendar to March 2027. All 26 Indian gold ETFs and all 18 silver ETFs with sizes and expense ratios. The tax master table for Tax Year 2026-27. A method for auditing the gold you already own, including the jewellery that most Indian households never count. Worked examples with real rupee numbers. Checklists you can work through with a pen. Twenty frequently asked questions, a full glossary, and a 90-day action plan.
Every rate, threshold and rule was verified against public sources on or before 24 August 2026. Where sources disagree, the book says so. Where a rule is contested, it says that too. And it tells you exactly where to check each rule yourself, so you are never dependent on it β or on anybody else.
It will not forecast the gold price. It will not tell you gold always goes up. It shows you the decade rupee gold returned 2.4% a year, and it separates last year's 62% return into the metal, the falling rupee, and a customs duty change that cannot repeat.
