# How to hide spam, links and abusive comments on Instagram automatically

You can hide spam comments on Instagram automatically in two ways: Instagram's built-in filters, which match words you list, and a moderation tool that reads each comment for its meaning. Use both: the built-in filters for known words, and a tool for the spam, links and abuse a word list misses.

## 1. Turn on Instagram's own filters
- Instagram hides comments with common offensive words, phrases or emojis automatically; the setting is on by default
- Hidden Words lets you add your own list of words, phrases, numbers or emojis to hide from comments
- You can hide any single comment yourself by tapping Hide under it; it stays visible only to you and the person who wrote it

## 2. Why word lists still let spam through
- Spammers change the wording: “DM me for growth”, “d.m for paid promo” and an emoji version are three different strings.
- Links don't share a word: every shop or scam link looks different, so a list can't hide links as a class.
- Abuse is often spelled to dodge filters, or written in Hinglish or another language.
- You only learn the new phrase after it has already sat under your post.
