# Abandoned cart DM template for Instagram sellers

An abandoned cart DM goes to someone who opened your product link from a DM but did not buy, and it works best as one helpful message a few hours later: answer the likely doubt, offer help with payment, link back to checkout. Below are six variants, the timing rules Instagram imposes, and how to set it up.

## How does an Instagram cart reminder work?
Instagram has no cart. The "cart" here is your DM: someone commented, got a DM with a button to your product, and did not buy. In SuperProfile, follow-ups can run when the product was or was not bought, when the link was not clicked, or when there is no reply, when the button opens your SuperProfile product. So the reminder goes only to people who have not bought, and buyers get a different message.
Timing has a hard edge: follow-ups run within 23 hours of the person's message, inside Meta's messaging window. On a comment, the person also needs to tap your opening message first; that tap is what lets more messages follow. For people who started checkout and gave an email, product email rules can send a reminder by email too: product email rules send messages on purchase or abandoned cart, with delays and templates.

**Variant 3: payment trouble**
If the payment didn't go through, that happens sometimes with UPI. Try again below, or reply here and I'll help.
**Variant 4: honest deadline, only if real**
The [early-bird price / bonus] ends [tonight at 11:59 pm IST]. After that it's [the regular price]. Link 👇
**Variant 5: Hinglish**
Hi! [Product] dekha aapne, koi sawal ho toh poochiye 🙂Order ka link phir se 👇
**Variant 6: Hinglish, payment help**
Payment mein koi dikkat aayi? UPI kabhi kabhi fail ho jata hai. Dobara try karo, ya yahan reply karo, main help karungi 🙏
Button text: "Back to checkout", "Complete my order" or "See the [product]". Keep the button pointing at the same product the first DM opened.

## What should buyers get instead?
A bought follow-up can replace the reminder with a thank-you. It costs nothing and reduces "where is my file?" messages.

**Bought, Hinglish**

## When should the reminder go?
| Delay after the first DM | Good for |
| --- | --- |
| 1 to 2 hours | Low-priced digital products bought on impulse |
| 3 to 6 hours | Courses, webinars and coaching, where people think it over |
| Up to the 23-hour limit | An offer that ends the next day |
Send one reminder. If they did not buy after a reminder, a second DM rarely changes that and often gets you muted.

## What should you customise?
- **The doubt you answer.** Look at the questions people DM you before buying (time, level, refunds, delivery) and answer the most common one in the reminder.
- **The payment line.** In India, a failed UPI payment is a common reason people drop off; offering help is useful. For buyers abroad, swap it for cards.
- **The delay.** Match it to how long people think before buying this product (see the table above).
- **Your voice.** If the first DM was Hinglish, keep the reminder Hinglish.

## What mistakes should you avoid?
- **Guilt or pressure.** "You left me hanging 😢" reads badly when screenshotted.
- **Invented scarcity.** "Only 2 left" on a digital file is untrue and buyers know it.
- **A discount for any hesitant buyer.** People learn to wait for the reminder. If you offer one, make it a one-time launch offer and say so.
- **A reminder that links somewhere else.** Same product, same page.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I send abandoned cart messages on Instagram?
Yes, as a follow-up DM within Meta's messaging window. With SuperProfile, the follow-up can go only to people who did not buy the product the DM linked to.

### How long after can I send the reminder?
Within 23 hours of the person's message, which keeps it inside Meta's 24-hour window.

### Does SuperProfile know who added to cart?
It knows who got the DM, whether they opened the link (with link tracking on) and whether they bought the product. Instagram itself has no cart.
